Here’s the second half of our LakeFrontRow Cinema season

John Roberts will present his gorgeously realized fairytale 'The Wheel' on Mon, Oct 19

We’re back! After taking the summer off, LakeFrontRow Cinema closes out the 2015 season at the Central Library with three more evenings of homegrown filmmaking.

On Thurs, Sept 24, the Central Library will present the short films of Brian Hollendyke. A cinematographer, editor, actor and director, Hollendyke seems to have his hands in just about everything. Among the evening’s selections is an encore screening of Wisconsin Film Festival alum Winterlude, for which Hollendyke’s hauntingly gorgeous cinematography was vital to rendering the cerebral headspace of an unrequited lover. The program will also feature Hollendyke’s drama Kaylee, a gripping two-man show between a scorned man in custody and a lawyer all too eager to offer his advice.

Milwaukee’s John Roberts stops by on Mon, Oct 19. A motion designer and visual effects artist with Independent Studios, Roberts’s portfolio is slim but impressive, balancing darkness and adventure like a Laika Studios production come to life. An exquisitely-designed fairytale, The Wheel tells the steam punk fable of a man who controls the mechanical clockwork of the world with a giant wheel and his meddlesome sister, set on disrupting his stoic post. In Roberts’s newest film Lemon, a little girl sells her miracle lemonade to save up for a coveted Princess Galaxy bike. All goes awry when she’s swindled out of her recipe. Roberts will also present his bizarrely whimsical music video for Milwaukee rock ‘n soul band Kane Place Record Club.

On Tues, Dec 8, the 2015 season of LakeFrontRow Cinema wraps up with Catalyst from Kyle Arpke. The story of brothers Keeran and Terence, Catalyst explores growing pains and social awkwardness with strained familial relations and the budding interests of its youths. Older brother Keeran is an artist and a reluctant romantic, while Terence is a talented baseball star who maintains a relationship with their estranged, alcoholic father. Filled with religious imagery and cozy, original songwriting, Catalyst is the promising feature-length debut from Arpke, who’s already honed his craft with Milwaukee-based projects like Billy Club and Geoffrey Broughe Handles Confrontation Poorly.

  • Like all LakeFrontRow Cinema events, all three programs will be held in Rm 302 of the Central Public Library on 201 West Mifflin Street and will feature their respective filmmakers in person. Events begin at 6:30p and are FREE and open to the public.
