We’re helping Madison Film Forum with their “virtual festival” all next week
While Madison is a relatively small market for moviegoers, the city’s cinephiles have been blessed with a handful of like-minded tastemakers. Local institutions like UW Cinematheque as well as the Madison Museum of Contemporary Arts Spotlight and Rooftop Cinema programs bring in rare and limited release films to Madison audiences every year.
Next week, our friends at Madison Film Forum are adding themselves to the list with the “Missed Madison Film Festival,” a virtual festival by and for the city’s movie enthusiasts. Madison Film Forum have a rounded up a few dozen titles that, in addition to missing Madison for one reason or another, have accrued acclaim through critics’ circles and year-end lists. With the help of the Madison Public Library and Four Star Video Cooperative’s film collections and writing from WUD Film and LakeFrontRow, Madison Film Forum will dedicate all of next week (Mon, Jan 11 through Fri, Jan 15) to encouraging the city’s moviegoers to branch out in their cinematic tastes, announcing daily film titles and where to find them.
It’s a great idea, but communal engagement and a flair for variety are par for the course here. Madison Film Forum already do a bang up job with their Madfilm Meetups, so a virtual festival — with an event page for discussion to boot — seems like the next logical step in their philosophy. We couldn’t be happier to help.
- The “Missed Madison Festival”runs from Mon, Jan 11 through Fri, Jan 15. We’ll be linking to selections with our coverage here, but you can find all you need at madfilm.org
