Cinematheque teases spring calendar at ‘Goodbye to Language’ benefit

After enlisting Marcus Point’s 3D projection services for Jean-Luc Godard’s Goodbye to Language and bringing esteemed UW Professor David Bordwell in tow, the UW Cinematheque tripled down on last Thursday’s benefit screening. Peppered in his preview of the repertory program’s forthcoming schedule were director Jim Healy’s hints at Cinematheque’s spring calendar, including every Universal Studios release from 1971. That list includes Monte Hellman’s Two-Lane Blacktop featuring James Taylor and the Beach Boys’ Dennis Wilson and The Andromeda Strain, Robert Wise’s adaptation of the Michael Crichton pandemic novel.

Next year’s schedule also promises a thorough retrospective of Cannon films. Founded in 1967, the Cannon Group’s highs and lows vary from John Cassavetes’ Love Streams to Death Wish II and Breakin’ 2: Electric Boogaloo. In August, The Dissolve‘s resident garbage man Nathan Rabin wrote an excellent retrospective of Cannon mogul Menahem Golan’s history with the company. I’m just hoping Superman IV: The Quest for Peace flies in for the rescue next year.
