The Way, Way Back (6:30p — Pinney Branch Public Library)

Hot off their Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay, Jim Rash and Nat Faxon make their directorial debut in this coming-of-age story of a skittish teenager (Liam James) who befriends a quirky water park manager (Sam Rockwell) while spending a summer with his mother (Toni Collette) and her overbearing boyfriend (Steve Carell). FREE.

Pariah (7:00p — Alicia Ashman Branch Public Library)

Adepero Oduye plays Alike, a Brooklyn teen who comes to terms with her lesbian identity and must reconcile conflicting feelings of the loved ones around her. 2011 Sundance Film Festival winner for Excellence in Cinematography. FREE.

Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones (AMC Star, Point, Eastgate)

The latest installment in the hugely successful Paranormal Activity series uses found footage to mine scares out of the plight of Jesse, a young man who’s “marked” and then tormented by malevolent spirits.

Take a break from awards-friendly Tom Hanks fare with Sundance Cinemas Madison’s retro selection. Hanks stars as the “big” version of a teenage boy who wishes he were an adult in this classic 80s comedy. Co-starring the talents of Elizabeth Perkins and Robert Loggia.
