Yasuhiro Yoshiura writes and directs this theatrical version of the original six-episode ONA series. In a future where autonomous androids are subservient to humans, two teenage boys find their assumptions about empathy and humanity challenged when they discover the mysterious Time of EVE cafe — where man and machine are equal. Part of the Alicia Ashman Branch’s FREE Anime Club.

Camille Claudel 1915 (7:00p — 4070 Vilas Hall)

Juliette Binoche plays the titular artist in this French language film about Camille Claudel, a sculptor who was involuntarily committed to an asylum by her diplomat brother (Jean-Luc Vincent). Based, in part, on actual correspondence between the siblings, this UW Cinematheque “Special Presentation” plays FREE.

When two children turn up missing on Thanksgiving, it’s up to one firebrand father (Hugh Jackman) and a dogged police detective (Jake Gyllenhaal) to find them. Denis Villeneuve directs this seedy crime thriller. FREE.

What if Frankenstein’s monster wasn’t hideous? What if he was ruggedly handsome, with (someone else’s) piercing eyes and chiseled, stitched together ab muscles? Aaron Eckhart, in the title role, and the writer from all those Pirates movies answer that question in this graphic novel adaptation of a world that puts Mary Shelley’s creature in the midst of a war between good and evil.

Not that “Jai Ho!” Salman Khan stars as Jai, a kindhearted major who fights against corruption in this Bollywood picture.

Gimme Shelter(Point)

Vanessa Hudgens stars as Apple, a pregnant teen, in this story of surviving life on the streets.

SlaveFree Madison Film Festival(10:45a — Central Library, Rm 302)

The three selections in the 4th annual SlaveFree Madison Film Festival all focus on this year’s theme: human trafficking among teenagers. Abduction of Eden (10:15a), Make Room for Youth (12:45p) and The Harvest (2:00p) will be interspersed with panel discussions on various topics. All films play for FREE at the Central Library.

UW Cinematheque’s Sundays at the Chazen now belong to the cool, diabolical masterworks of Alfred Hitchcock. The inaugural entry in the series, The 39 Steps finds Robert Donat thwarting the attempts of a secret spy organization from stealing vital information. It’s an oldie, but a goodie. (That’s a British saying, right?)
