There’s music in the air these days — music that has nothing to do with Bette Midler at last night’s Oscars ceremony. Last month saw a “Sing-Along” version of the blockbuster hit Frozen, and just this past weekend, the WUD Film Committee hosted a Disney “Sing-Along” of their own in Mulan. Now, Marcus Theatres’ “Theater Entertainment Network”, which brought Christmas-themed programming to Madison throughout last December, brings a series of musicals to Point and Eastgate Mondays through Thursdays this month and for only $5.
When you consider some of the titles, that’s quite a bargain. The series begins today March 3 with John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John in Grease. Next week features the hair metal Tom Cruise vehicle Rock of Ages beginning March 10 followed by Liza Minnelli and Cabaret on March 17. March 24 is Frank Oz’s adaptation of the Alan Menken horror musical Little Shop of Horrors, starring Rick Moranis and a number of cameos from the likes of Bill Murray and Steve Martin. Through Thursday, April 3, the series wraps up with the immortal Singin’ in the Rain. Hopefully by then the weather might be warm enough to get some.
