High-fives for Marcus Theatres’ $5 Tuesdays

There’s nothing wrong with a little competition, and Marcus Theatres is upping the ante with a brand new promotion this month. On each and every Tuesday, all first-run movies at Point and Eastgate theaters are only $5. That’s right. $5. On any movie. High-fives all around.

Marcus’ new discount is a clear upgrade from their previous “Spotlight Movie Club” promotion, which limited discount screenings to four pre-selected titles. Subscribers to Marcus’ newsletter could exchange a coupon for a $5 ticket every Wednesday and Thursday, however the offer was rarely (if ever) valid for new releases. To further complicate things, there was no guarantee all four of the “select” titles would be playing at Point or Eastgate on a given week.

$5 Tuesdays still don’t apply to 3D screenings or any of Marcus’ special events, but the discount is no longer restricted to newsletter subscribers with enough foresight to pull up the email on their smartphone — or even worse, to print out a paper copy in advance. The new offer comes packaged with a $5 student Thursday promotion as well, which affords the same value to all attendees with a valid student ID.

Marcus’ discount pricing is just the latest in a string of competitive moves the theater chain has been making this year. Back in July, the recently remodeled Point Cinemas unveiled a fancy new cocktail bar as a counter to Sundance Cinema Madison’s Overflow Bar and alcoholic concessions. As an added incentive to check out the new digs, Point also offered moviegoers a temporary Monday through Thursday $5 promotion for the entire month of October — with free popcorn to boot. With Marcus Theatres’ revolving door of “Entertainment Network” selections, the theater chain continues to offer attractive alternatives for Madison’s moviegoers.

Both $5 Tuesdays and $5 Student Thursdays began last week at Point and Eastgate. And as a disclaimer, I am in no way affiliated with Marcus Theatres. Can you imagine the complaints over sneaking scoops of popcorn?
