Rejoice, human toilets! The ever elusive Duke of Burgundy (aka “that movie that opens with a woman peeing in her girlfriend’s mouth”) is coming to Madison by way of the Reel Love Film Festival. Earlier today, WUD Film announced the lineup to their dependably pedigreed four-day festival, which plays at The Marquee from April 23 through April 26.
The value of Reel Love is in its privileging of queer cinema to champion a pan-sexual philosophy and while nothing this year embraces love as aggressively as Peter Strickland’s BDSM home run about two lovers testing the limits of their trust (Apr 25), there’s plenty more to enjoy. 52 Tuesdays (Apr 25) finds a teenage boy’s time with his mother dwindle as she transitions genders. Cinematheque premiere Appropriate Behavior (Apr 24)has writer-director-star Desiree Akhavan straddle questions of race, religion, gender, bisexuality and even coolness. The sublime Stranger by the Lake (Apr 25) elevates its surface-level AIDS allegory and gay cruising into something far more sinister. Check out the full schedule on WUD Film’s Facebook page.
