Thursday
Hour of the Wolf (6:30p — Central Library, Rm 302)
For good reason, Persona has the reputation of being the most introspective of Ingmar Bergman’s meta-narratives. This psychological thriller starring Liv Ullmann and Max von Sydow might be his creepiest. FREE.
All freakin’ weekend
Cantinflas (Eastgate)
Óscar Jaenada and Michael Imperioli star in this biopic about “the Charlie Chaplin of Mexico.”
The Identical (AMC Star, Point, Eastgate)
Starring Elvis impersonator Blake Rayne, The Identical imagines an alternate reality in which Elvis Presley’s stillborn twin brother lived long enough to see his likeness used for pro-Israel evangelism.
Fort McCoy (Point)
Shot (partially) in La Crosse, this drama tells the (sort of) true story of a Wisconsin family who moves next to a Nazi POW camp at Fort McCoy during WWII. On a more uplifting note, this has Wes Anderson regular Seymour Cassel as a priest.
Forrest Gump: An IMAX Experience (AMC Star)
The format reaches its nadir.
The Wizard of Oz (Point, Eastgate)

The Lavender Hill Mob + Last Holiday (7:00p + 8:30p — 4070 Vilas Hall)
Alec Guinness, who would celebrate his centennial this year, is remembered by most as Obi-Wan Ke-blah blah blah. Let’s set aside any digs at the most pervasive pop culture staple of all time and appreciate Cinematheque’s retrospective for its own merits. This opening double-feature of early 50s comedies throws gobs of money at Guinness. The Lavender Hill Mob features the actor as a lowly transporter who decides to “treat” himself to some of the mob’s money. In Last Holiday, Guinness’ terminally ill salesman spends all he’s got. FREE.
