Over the next several weeks, LakeFrontRow.com will announce one official Wisconsin Film Festival selection each and every Friday.
Get those Fargo comparisons out of the way now, because when “Wisconsin Premieres” selection In Order of Disappearance plays at this year’s Wisconsin Film Festival, I will have none of it. Sweden’s rejoinder to the ironic Liam Neeson action hero, Stellan Skarsgård plays a snow plow driver who bumps off a Norwegian heroin gang as he unfurls the real story behind his son’s suspected murder.
It’s not as grim as it sounds. In Order of Disappearance‘s stateside marketing seems to be aiming for a symmetry with the sardonic violence of the Coens’ crime films and latter day Scorsese, but director-actor team Hans Petter Moland and Skarsgård have developed a brand of wry mob humor all on their own. As their fourth collaboration, this looks more in line with their gangster comedy A Somewhat Gentle Man, which gifted a humorous simplicity to an ex-con hitman. What does that mean for In Order of Disappearance? With any luck, a revenge-filled spin on the “Mr. Plow” episode. Do they serve doughnuts in Norway? In Order of Disappearance is an official Wisconsin Film Festival selection. Watch the trailer below.
